This opinion has been stated by the Head of the Executive Committee of the National Meat Association, Sergey Yushin, in an interview for the website “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.
We expect that meat import will be almost completely stopped because domestic prices and reduced purchasing power make it uneconomical. At the same time, we expect an increase in our own production, but not enough to close all imports,” he said. While Yushin is sure that there will be no price increases as lack of this product will be compensated by the reduction of its demand. The expert has noted that even at current prices, meat consumption has already been falling and furthermore mostly beef depends on the rouble exchange rate.
“We will not wait a significant rise in bird price. The competition in poultry industry is fierce. There is a domestic production growth of pork that will allow to constrain the rising prices, even if import is completely terminated,” Yushin is assured.
The Head of the Executive Committee of the National Meat Association has emphasized that if it is necessary, consumers easily switch from one type of meat to another; from the meat with increased cost to cheaper one.
